In July 2025, the Wonderfully Made Train-the-Trainer took place in Benin. The materials of Wonderfully Made have been translated into French and contextualized: Une Créature Merveilleuse. A total of 18 out of 20 participants completed the evaluation. The results show a very high appreciation of both the training content and the trainer’s expertise.

Overall appreciation
All statements related to acquired knowledge and competencies were rated highly, with average scores between 4.3 and 4.7 (on a 5-point scale). The training objectives were clearly achieved, and participants felt confident in their role as trainers.

The overall appreciation of the training was even higher, with average scores between 4.6 and 4.9, particularly regarding the trainer’s expertise. Participants felt encouraged, equipped, and inspired.

Learning outcomes
Participants reported gaining valuable insights into:

  • Biblical values related to relationships and sexuality
  • Age-appropriate sexuality education
  • The importance of self-esteem, dignity, and protective behaviour
  • Breaking taboos around sexuality
  • Communicating openly with children and parents
  • The holistic and Biblically grounded approach of Wonderfully Made

Many participants highlighted that sexuality education can start at a young age, always aligned with a child’s developmental stage.

Contextualisation and cooperation
Participants appreciated the attention given to contextual adaptation, while also noting the need for continued adjustment to the local context. Cooperation between school, parents, and community was seen as essential.

Appreciation of the trainer
Trainer Elly van der Gouwe received very positive feedback. Participants highlighted her expertise, clear explanations, use of Biblical stories, interactive teaching style, and the safe learning environment she created. The availability of French-language materials was highly valued.

Recommendations

  • The participants mention a few points of attention. Some would have liked to do more practical exercises, especially practicing conversations with children and parents. Others express a desire for a follow-up or refresher training, or a longer training.

Conclusion
The participants are very satisfied with the Wonderfully Made Train-the-Trainer in Benin. The training has equipped them to address sexuality education from a Biblical perspective in a context where these topics are often taboo.
