Reflection on the Exchange Week with Hungary (KRE)

Last week marked the first part of the exchange with Hungary. Eight students and two lecturers from Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church (KRE) in Budapest visited Driestar Christian University.

Both groups – our fourth-year teacher education students and the Hungarian students – look back on a wonderful week full of encounters and exchange.

During their stay, the Hungarian students got to know the Dutch educational system and student life at Driestar. They attended various classes, including Mathematics and Physical Education, and visited several primary schools to see how education in the Netherlands takes shape in practice. Our students also gave presentations about Dutch education and classroom practice, which led to meaningful discussions about similarities and differences between the two countries.

Besides the educational activities, the Hungarian students stayed mostly with Dutch students in host families, which created opportunities for personal exchange and connection. One Hungarian student even joined a catechism class and received a personal tour of the local church (the father of one of the Dutch students happens to be the pastor 😉). Spending this much time together led to many good conversations and perhaps even new friendships.

This was a first experience, but once again we are deeply impressed by what encounters can bring about and grateful that this exchange was such a success.

The Dutch students are now looking forward to travelling to Hungary on 13 November for the second part of the exchange, where they hope to reconnect with the students they hosted last week.

Take a look at some photos below to get an impression of this Exchange Week!

This enriching experience was made possible through the support of Erasmus+, which enables international collaboration and professional development. Through this program, we were able to engage in meaningful exchanges, broaden our perspectives, and strengthen our commitment to high-quality, values-driven education. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to building on these international connections in the future!
