New Literacy Research Group Strengthens Christian Education

Driestar Christian University for Teacher Education has established a new research group.

On 12 June, Janneke de Jong-Slagman will be appointed Professor of Literacy Education and will lead the new Literacy Research Group at Driestar Christian University for Teacher Education. Alongside teacher-researchers Tineke Boele and Peter Dijkstra, she will conduct applied research into improving literacy skills. Students of Christian education need to become familiar with a more diverse range of literature, and develop literacy skills in a broader sense in addition to reading proficiency.

This requires formative stories and effective teaching methods. Such stories can build bridges between people from different times, places and backgrounds.

The research group aims to compile such a corpus and support Christian schools in using it for educational purposes. These plans will take concrete form in a research group plan in the new academic year.
